The Mind Reader — How can a machine predict what you will do next?

A machine predicts what you will do next by remembering what you did before and spotting the habits you leak without noticing. In this lesson a 1950s guessing box lays a card face down before you choose between two keys, and it is right far more often than it should be. Then you pull open its drawer and find your own moves already written down on four index cards, sorted by what you did after what — and you use its own notes against it. It ends with you in the machine's chair, reading its habits and calling its moves, and then meeting the one opponent nobody can read: a coin, which has no yesterday. Based on the real mind-reading machines built at Bell Labs in 1953.
