What the teacher sees, and does not see
Honest and short: what Focuspilot shows the teacher, what is never collected, and how a pupil can tell when the teacher is looking.
Focuspilot helps the teacher keep the lesson on track. This is what the teacher can see, what the teacher cannot see, and what you notice as a pupil.
You see when the teacher looks
When the teacher looks at your screen, you can tell.
- In Chrome, the Focuspilot icon in the toolbar gets a green dot. Hold the mouse over it and it says: "Focuspilot, the teacher can see your screen right now".
- On a Windows computer the icon by the clock changes and a notice appears.
When the teacher stops looking, the dot goes away.
What the teacher can see
- Whether your computer is online.
- Which page is open right now, with its name and address.
- Your open tabs, when the teacher enlarges your tile.
- Your screen as a still picture, but only while the teacher is looking. It is not video.
- On Windows, which program is open can also show.
If you type something it shows on the screen while the teacher looks, just as if the teacher stood behind you.
What the teacher cannot see
- No webcam and no microphone sound. Focuspilot never uses them.
- No keystrokes. What you type is not logged.
- Not the clipboard, meaning what you copy.
- No video recording of your screen. The pictures are not saved after the teacher has looked.
- During an exam no screen picture is shown at all.
What the school decides
The school can turn off screen pictures, tabs and activity completely. The school can also choose that the computer is free outside school hours. If that setting is off, a switched on, connected school computer can show which page is open even at home. Ask your teacher or the school what applies at your school.
If the school has turned on history, only how long you spent in each mode, how many times something was blocked and which sites are used most are saved. It is deleted after 90 days, unless the school has chosen another time.
The teacher leads the lesson, not your life
The teacher can put the class in Explore, Focus or Lock to give calm and focus. This is about schoolwork, on the school's computer.
Questions
The school is responsible for the data and Viafocus AB processes it on the school's behalf. Ask your school about this. A parent or guardian can ask the school for a copy of the information.
