Frequently asked questions

Ten common questions about Focuspilot, the AI and Studio, with short and honest answers.

Which computers does it work on?

Chromebooks and Windows computers. Macs and iPads are not supported today.

Does the pupil see when I look at their screen?

Yes. When you look at a pupil's screen, the pupil can tell. In Chrome the Focuspilot icon gets a green dot, and on Windows the icon changes and a notice appears.

Can a pupil turn Focuspilot off?

When IT force installs the extension from Google Admin, the pupil can neither turn it off nor remove it. The weak points are incognito, guest mode and signing in with accounts other than the school's. That is why the install page has a list for IT that makes it harder to get around.

How do I set a pupil or the whole class free again?

Choose Explore for the pupil or the class. Explore always wins, so it takes a single press.

What happens if the wifi drops?

On Windows the settings hold and your commands are replayed when the computer is back. The school's blocking keeps applying. Answers in an exam are saved on the computer and sent when it is online again.

Does it work at home?

A switched on, connected school computer can show which page is open even at home, unless the school has chosen that the computers disconnect outside school hours. The school makes that setting itself.

Are pupils' screens saved?

No. Screen pictures are only sent while you are looking and are not saved. History of use exists only if the school turns it on, and then only how long the pupil spent in each mode, how many times something was blocked and which sites are used most. Read more in the guide about what the teacher sees and does not see.

Where is the data, and what does the AI do with it?

The school is responsible and Viafocus AB processes the data on the school's behalf, under a data processing agreement. The AI runs on models in the EU at Microsoft Azure. Your school's administrator can turn the AI off completely under Settings, Features, for example over the summer.

What does it cost, and can we try it?

A school pays 99 kr per pupil and year, excluding VAT, with a minimum of 50 pupils. Focuspilot, Studio, the AI and teacher accounts are included. There is a free 60 day pilot.

How long does installation take?

If IT has everything ready, Chromebooks take about 10 minutes and Windows computers about 15 minutes. Pupils do nothing. The page turns green by itself when the first computer answers.
